15|52 Goofball

April 22, 2010

I’m behind on posting my project, so wanted to get this one, and the next one up asap!

This is my typical kid: being a clown. It’s not ALL drama around here, she’s a total goofball, and loves making us laugh.

Marathon Monday

April 21, 2010

When my husband and I were younger, and living in Boston, one of the best days of the year (second maybe only to St. Paddy’s Day in Southie) was Patriots Day. We would get up “early” (early for a 24 year old, anyway), and head over to the Fenway Park area, to one of the surrounding bars that was open for “breakfast”. We’d end up meeting a bunch of friends, and would all hang out until we had to leave for the Sox game. The game was always a blast–even though Opening Day had come and gone, Patriots Day really kind of felt like the kick-off to the season. After the game we’d head over to Boylston Street, to cheer on the Boston Marathon runners as they approached the end of the Marathon (the finish was just another couple of miles away). Needless to say, the crowd in this area can be a little rowdy–but in a good way! It was so fun to cheer on the runners, root for the Sox, and hang out with friends.

Ever since we decided to move to the suburbs, we were a little sad about not being just a cab ride away from all the action. Until we found our current home, which is practically on the route of the Boston Marathon. It is about one street over from our house! So now we’re even closer to the Marathon fun (and a little further from all the college-aged fun, which is a good thing, in my opinion!). We can just walk on over, and be home in 5 minutes if need be. I thought I’d share some of the pics I took this year from the Marathon festivities.

The Marathon starts off with the wheelchair participants. Rick and Dick Hoyt are always a huge crowd favorite–they have been running the Marathon since 1981!!201004_marathon_015WebSharpwm

And now, everyone else. Thousands and thousands of runners–some in costume, some not. Some wearing their names, so the crowds can cheer for them by name. Some quietly going about their journey, others slapping high-fives with kids on the sidelines, cheering for fellow runners. The energy is contagious and addictive, and above all, inspiring.

Inevitably, we photographers will run into “the difficult session”. The child who wants nothing to do with us, the outdoor family session scheduled during torrential rains, the newborn who only wants to exercise their new lungs instead of sleep. We never let on during these sessions, and just smile and do what we do — because that’s our job. We figure it out, and we push for every shot.

And then you have a session, like this one. Where everything just falls into place, and you wonder why you ever did anything different for work. You walk away encouraged, inspired, and fulfilled.

This family was awesome. M here is about 9 months old–not normally the easiest age for toddlers. He’s not quite standing, not quite walking, but definitely sitting. And grinning. And clapping. Basically, he’s just being the cutest 9 month old ever, as well as the easiest I’ve ever worked with. Tell me you can resist his charms. I dare you.

I think this one is my fave, the look on M’s face cracks me up.

And we ended our session with a few shots of M in this Radio Flyer, he was LOVING it.

13|52 New Friends

April 4, 2010

This week’s image comes from a playdate Lila and I had earlier this week. Lila and I both made new friends, it was awesome! I always love meeting other photographers, and getting to talk shop for a bit. It’s even more fun watching my daughter interact with other kids.

Here, the girls were holding onto the gate (we have a brand new walker, and an almost walker here), and “dancing”. We weren’t playing music, they were just feeding off of each other, and being super goofy. It was hilarious to watch, and filled my heart with joy.

(Taken from my testimonial for a new action set from the wonderful Michelle Black :)

Lucky me was chosen to test some new actions for the incredibly talented Michelle Black! These actions are, in a word, amazing. They offer something new in the way of actions–a custom blend of cross-processing with vintage-ish flair. I couldn’t stop testing out various images of mine, to see how they’d look with the “Michelle Black Touch”–and I was right, they looked fabulous. Right now, my favorite is the Cream Soda action, but ask me again in a few days, and I may be in love with the Pomegranate Martini. Thanks, Michelle, for the opportunity to be one of the first to test these, I am sure they’ll be a giant success!

I wanted to post some images that I’ve tested with her new actions, and provide some before & afters. See below, and be prepared to run to Michelle’s site, with your credit card in hand! :)
