ng it. And that I do. They’re inspiring, exciting, and so FUN. I mean, we all love a good wedding, right? I know my dancing machine husband does!
(The next 2 I took while second shooting for Meg Sexton from Meg Sexton Photography. We took an amazing roadtrip up to Bar Harbor, Maine, it was such a fun weekend!)
As I mentioned yesterday, I only book a handful of weddings each year – the time commitment is just too great to do more than that for me at this time. June 2012 is currently booked for weddings, but I am open to taking a couple more later in the year, so feel free to contact me if you are interested!

Last up, for New Year’s Eve, I will be posting my favorite personal photos from the year. I have a lot of personal faves this year, especially with the new arrival of our son!

? Rather, what if how I captured their once in a lifetime day isn’t how they want to remember it? I know it might seem silly, but it can be downright scary to put yourself, your work, your creative side “out there” and hope that others can see and appreciate it.

And just as scary as it can be, it is also fulfilling times ten when you get an email back like this: …the pictures are absolutely beautiful!! You did such a phenomenal job. It took (us) a while to get through them because we looked at and chatted about each and every one!! It must have taken you forever to go through all of them…thank you again for all you’ve done. It’s so amazing to be able to re-live our wedding through your pictures and we are so fortunate that you were the ones capturing such a special night for us.

That right there outweighs any nervousness I may feel in my stomach. It’s why I do this. And why I love this so much. Thank YOU, Leah & Jae, thank you.

Sarah also took this shot of the reception, I love all the candlelit paths and how clear the night was – it was the day before a full moon, so the sky was just beautiful.
What wedding reception is complete without a bonfire? This was SO cool – and so appropriate, I think the weather was in the 40s that night!

I was beyond flattered and excited when they asked me to capture the these special moments of the ceremony, as I knew there were only going to be about 10 people there. And I was a little nervous, wondering just how I'd be able to take the images they deserved, with tears in my eyes.

Sarah and Derek are each other's perfect complement–opposites in so many ways, but perfectly made for each other. They are big fans of the band State Radio, and have seen them perform many times. Much of their wedding was planned with the band in mind, from the tables named after the band's songs, to including them in their vows, and dancing their first dance to their favorite song, Indian Moon. In fact, Sarah's birthday was just last week, and Derek surprised her with hand-written lyrics for Indian Moon, penned by the band's lead singer! (It's also where I got my blog post title from, if you were wondering.)

Below are just some of my favorites from their ceremony in Melrose, MA. S&D hired another photographer to shoot the reception, and I was able to spend some quality time with them and our friends, and enjoy the night–SO fun! It was a nice treat to only work for a few hours, instead of the typical 10-12 hour days I put in at weddings. It was even better to be able to hang out with amazing friends and celebrate such a great event in their lives.

Sarah & Derek, thank you both so much for asking me to take such important photos for you. I'm honored to call you both friends, and couldn't be happier for you. Here's to many, many years of happiness, and "Family Holidays" with you! We love you guys!

I did a lot of things as a mom I swore I’d never do (listen to Laurie Berkner, watch Barney willingly, ignore the mess, forsake my beloved shopping days for kiddie gym class, you name it). Business-wise, I always swore I’d never shoot weddings. Too much pressure, too long of a day, and giving up one of my two precious days a week with my family.

Then I (second) shot one. And was hooked. I loved shooting weddings. Those little moments I loved shooting already–the ones where people are genuine with each other, and not paying attention to anyone with a lens? Weddings are MADE for these moments! Ok, well, maybe not really, but you know what I mean. Over the rest of 2010, I shot a handful of weddings, some as the second shooter, and some as the primary. Pouring rain, thunderstorms, bright blazing mid-day sun, wintery darkness, 90 degrees, muggy and buggy, I’ve seen and learned a lot this year. More than anything, I ate my words. I love shooting weddings, and all that comes with it! Below are some of my favorites from the year. (Note: I am currently only accepting a VERY limited number of weddings for 2011. I have a few on the books already, and have about 3 spots left. If you are thinking inquiring with me for your wedding, I would recommend doing so sooner rather than later.)
(The cutie on the left above might look a little familiar–he’s the little boy running down the stairs in that Beautiful perfume ad I’ve seen on tv! He does a lot of print modeling work too. Fun!)
This is the last business post for 2010 for me! Tomorrow I’m posting my favorites from my 52 Weeks project I did this year, with Lila. And Saturday I’m going to announce my new personal project for 2011! I wanted to send a HUGE thank you to all of my amazing clients for such a wonderful year. You are so supportive and inspiring, and I can’t ever thank you enough. I look forward to seeing everyone again in 2011!

I promised them I would put up a couple of sneak peeks before they leave tomorrow for Mexico, so here they are! More to come later, stay tuned. The day couldn’t have been more perfect, I will admit, I shed a few tears.

At least, not at first. They’d gone and eloped, only telling their families what they were up to. They decided to plan a reception for July 2010, to celebrate with their families and friends. They chose a beautiful outdoor venue in the small town where Rachel grew up. The Young Men’s Club in Hadley, MA provided the perfect backdrop for the reception, with the mountains in the distance, nearby tobacco farms on either side, and wide green fields surrounding a rustic barn-slash-building, complete with white twinkle lights and lanterns.

I can’t tell you how honored I was to be there to capture the day for them–these are two of THE nicest people you will ever meet. This is wholly evident by all the wonderful people in their lives, who were there to share this day with them. Their gracious, easy-going and lovely manner was apparent throughout the day–through the thunderstorms, through the heat and humidity, through it all.

I’m going to try to not get carried away sharing my favorites from the day…but be warned. This will probably be long. But first, a quick thank you to the fabulous Sarah Phillips of Sarah Phillips Photography, who helped me out for the day. Sarah, you are awesome, and I can’t wait to work with you again in a couple of weeks!

Rachel & Brad decided they wanted to do a First Look before we went to do portraits, which I just had to capture. We headed off to one of the aforementioned tobacco fields to do some portraits before the festivities started.Some fierce thunderstorms rolled through the area about 30 minutes before we went out to do photos–check out that sky!I loved this touch: photos taken from the day they got married.Rachel surprised Brad with a cigar bar after dinner–it was a huge hit!I stole Rachel & Brad around sunset, so we could take a few more shots of just the two of them. I love, love, love these.I mean, SERIOUSLY. How gorgeous are they??As night fell, the candles and strings of tiny little lights twinkled brightly against the dark sky. Sparklers came out, the dance floor quickly filled up, and I could feel the love and happiness radiating from Rachel & Brad, surrounded by their loved ones, as they spent a few minutes on the straw couch underneath a starry sky.

Party = success.

Rachel & Brad, thank you both for such a memorable day. I only hope your photos reflect 1/10th of the joy and love I saw around you. You are perfect for each other, and it’s an honor to call you friends. Congratulations and much love!

We took a short drive out to northwestern Connecticut, to capture Molly & PJ’s day. I’m still not sure how we managed to luck out with the weather–I bet it had something to do with the luck of the Irish. It POURED, and I mean poured, the entire way out to the wedding. It poured, rained, showered, and sprinkled, on and off, right up until the ceremony was about to start.

Then, and only then, did the skies clear. We stole Molly & PJ following the ceremony, and went off to do some outdoor couple portraits of them. We came back, and did the formals portraits with their families and bridal party, and right as the reception was about to begin, the rains started up again. Not kidding. How we managed to time those perfect two hours is beyond me.
