I have slowly over the years built up a short list of favorite locations to take my clients. I always love their homes most, but meeting at other outdoor locations like parks is also a lot of fun. The kids have a chance to run around, we don’t have to worry about traffic, and I can almost always find new favorite spots. I have a very short list of places near my house that I know better than my own backyard (granted, we’ve only lived here for 6 months, but still). I know where the light is best at any time of day, and can steer us towards specific locations depending on my mood/the kids’ personalities/the parents’ overall visions for their session.
I met up with this adorable family last summer in the middle of the day. Typically mid-day sun isn’t the most ideal – it’s harsh and contrasty, and can be unflattering. But we met at a nearby park that I am super familiar with, so we were easily able to use that (hot!) sun to our advantage. The kids were so funny, I loved how they played together. They also showed me their best dance moves, which I can always appreciate. And it was a total coincidence that I chose the park where mom & dad were married! I had no idea when I suggested it, and they told me during our session – talk about fate! Scroll down for some of my favorites.
